AIAIC - AI & Agritech Innovation Centre | Government of Maharashtra
Artificial Intelligence and AgriTech Innovation Center
Department of Agriculture | Government of Maharashtra

The Artificial Intelligence & AgriTech Innovation Center (AIAIC) is a dedicated institutional platform established by the Government of Maharashtra to accelerate the responsible adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies across the agricultural value chain. Conceived under the MahaAgri-AI Policy 2025–2029, AIAIC serves as the state’s nodal center for innovation, incubation, and implementation, enabling data-driven, scalable, and farmer-centric solutions that enhance productivity, sustainability, and resilience in agriculture.

Mandate

To implement the MahaAgri-AI Policy 2025–2029, AIAIC is mandated to bridge policy, technology, research, and field-level implementation by fostering a collaborative ecosystem involving startups, research institutions, industry, FPOs, and government agencies.

The Center focuses on translating advanced technologies including AI, machine learning, geospatial intelligence, IoT, robotics, and digital public infrastructure (DPI) into practical, deployable solutions that address real-world agricultural challenges.

Vision

To propel Maharashtra as a leading innovation hub for AI-driven agriculture, fostering an inclusive ecosystem where government, academia, startups, industry, and farmers collaborate to develop future-ready solutions relevant to India and the global agri-food system.

Mission

To harness the benefits of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies across all regions and farm sizes by building robust digital public infrastructure, promoting farmer-centric innovation, enabling practical and scalable AI-powered solutions, strengthening capacity for adoption, and fostering collaboration with industry and academia across the agricultural ecosystem.

We Pursue This Mission By

  • Creating Digital Public Infrastructure (DPIs) and Digital Public Goods (DPGs) that enable secure, interoperable, and responsible use of agricultural data
  • Catalysing innovation by supporting research, startups, and solution providers from ideation to scale
  • Strengthening capacity and institutional readiness across government, academia, and the agri-ecosystem through skills development and knowledge exchange
  • Enabling field-level adoption and impact through pilots, demonstrations, and scalable implementations
  • Convening national and global stakeholders through conferences, investor summits, and collaborative platforms to foster investment, partnerships, and shared learning

Collaboration at the Core

At AIAIC, we recognise that meaningful innovation emerges through collaboration and co-creation. Beyond programmes and projects, AIAIC functions as a convening platform, bringing together policymakers, technologists, researchers, investors, startups, industry, and farming communities to co-create solutions and exchange knowledge.

As Maharashtra’s nodal institution for agritech advancement, AIAIC acts as a trusted catalyst, connecting research, industry, and field practitioners to ensure that technological breakthroughs move beyond laboratories and deliver measurable impact at the farm and across value chains.

This collaborative approach ensures that technology remains farmer-relevant, strengthens agricultural value chains, and contributes to resilient, inclusive, and sustainable food systems. To achieve this, we focus on:

  • Interdisciplinary Expertise - We bring together scientists, academicians, innovators, policymakers, and industry leaders to address complex agricultural challenges through collective intelligence, applied research, and problem-driven innovation.
  • Global Alliances - We partner with leading AI institutes, research centres, and agritech organisations worldwide to adopt global best practices and advanced technologies for Maharashtra, while sharing locally developed, scalable solutions that contribute to food security and climate resilience globally.
  • Commercial Viability & Scale - We work closely with industry to translate research and innovation into scalable, market-ready solutions, enabling adoption at scale, empowering farmers, strengthening value chains, and driving sustainable economic growth.
  • Flagship initiatives - Events like AI4Agri - Global Conference & Investor Summit reflect AIAIC’s role as a thought partner and innovation hub in the evolving global AI-for-agriculture landscape.

Our Values and Principles

🎯

Farmer-Centric Design

Farmers are not passive recipients; they are co-creators. We adopt participatory design, multilingual delivery (English–Marathi), and field-level piloting to ensure AI solutions work effectively in real agricultural conditions.

🔒

Data as Public Good

AIAIC treats data as an enabler of innovation and public value. Through digital public infrastructure, we enable secure and responsible use of agricultural data across the ecosystem. Our platforms are designed to promote consent-based data sharing, interoperability, and trusted access empowering stakeholders to build scalable, farmer-centric solutions that advance innovation, inclusion, and public interest.

⚖️

Responsible AI

AIAIC is committed to promoting the responsible adoption of AI in agriculture. We aim to encourage the development and deployment of AI systems that are transparent, explainable, and aligned with ethical principles. Through policy guidance, review mechanisms, and institutional oversight, we seek to minimise risks related to bias, misuse, or unintended consequences, and to foster trust in AI-enabled agricultural solutions.

🤝

Public–Private Synergy

AIAIC operates as a convergence platform, bringing together government departments, startups, industry, research institutions, and civil society. This collaborative approach ensures faster innovation, rigorous validation, and scalable deployment of AI solutions for agriculture

📈

Innovation with Purpose

AIAIC supports innovations that address real needs across Maharashtra’s diverse crops, regions, and farming systems. We prioritise solutions that are practically relevant, farmer-validated, and tested in real field conditions, ensuring technology delivers measurable value on the ground.

🔄

Inclusion & Equity

Digital transformation must be inclusive by default. AIAIC ensures that women farmers, smallholders, FPOs, tenant farmers, and marginalised communities equitably benefit from AI-enabled services, capacity building, and innovation funding.
